Loses on KOA and ii podcast

Friday, November 20th, 2009

I had the opportunity to speak for a few minutes on KOA radio with Mike Rosen, Thursday, about the latest fiasco with AFSCME sending out membership cards.  I was also invited to participate in a podcast with Ben DeGrow of the Independence Institute.

On the Mike Rosen page (http://www.850koa.com/cc-common/podcast/single_podcast.html?podcast=shows_rosen.xm) look for the 11/19/09 date and the 11-12 time slot (Mike talks about the unions coming on board with the Obama administration).  I am about 10 minutes in and spoke for about 3 min.

The following is the email link from Ben to his podcast

Dave,

The podcast is up and live.  A direct link is posted below.

It’s also currently #1 on the main http://iVoices.org page.

WINS hides behind skirt of HR

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

This past week, WINS organized and held a budget information meeting at the unemployment office.  There was some budget guy from the state, there, along with a couple of union thugs. After the budget guy showed us the state of the state economy, a union guy got up and started soliciting for members. “We need to organize in our communities and in our offices.”

WINS used a formal budget information format to seek membership.  THIS IS INAPPROPRIATE USE OF GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS!

Then, when a couple of questions were brought up about the union, the questioner was immediately silenced – stepped on, actually, – and we were told to keep the topic on the budget.  Even Glenda Barry, the HR manager, stood up and silenced questions about the union.  So, the union can use “official” meetings, protected by senior state mangers, to solicit members, but questions about the union are not allowed.

Demand that WINS not be allowed to hold these “membership rally” meetings in your building!

Union LOSES Jobs for Cops!

Monday, August 31st, 2009

At 9 PM, Monday, August 31, 2009 the Denver Police union voted against a plan to delay pay raises…not their pay, but their raises…thus – 91 city police officers will lose their jobs.  Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper told the police officers that if they did not accept the option to delay pay raises, he would eliminate nearly 100 jobs.  The union voted the offer down 60/40.

Is this how you want your union to treat you?  Would you prefer to have people lose their jobs so you get a raise?

Only 3,500 state employees (11%) out of nearly 32,000 are union members.  Do you want THEM making the decisions that will affect YOU?

Help me push the union out of here.

UPDATE: On Oct 7, 2009, the union changed their vote…

“Denver Police officers  voted last night to delay scheduled contract pay raises for 2010 and 2011 to help close the city’s looming $160 million budget deficit.

“Mayor Hickenlooper had threatened to layoff nearly 100 officers if the Police Protective Association did not agree to the contract concessions.

“Originally the PPA would not agree to the terms, but after some contract sweeteners from the city, and politicking by veteran officers to save the threatened jobs, the rank and file voted to approve the contract.

“While this is seen as a victory for the Mayor, the reality is that it only buys him $6 million in the current budget cycle.  The city needs concessions that result in permanent savings, and unfortunately the Mayor and the Police, will likely be revisiting this issue again next year.”
